What is Reike?
Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy. It is a balanced flow of healing energy that comes through an attuned individual to his or her patient. It addresses the needs of the whole person; mental, physical, emotional and spiritual and can be used anytime, anywhere.
Much of my experience in the world of Reiki has been treatments I have given my own horse. Certainly being human and knowing a spiritual side of myself, one would wonder if an animal, be it a dog or a horse could respond to this kind of treatment. I do believe that once an individual experiences Reiki, they will understand it?s many benefits. Our horses do not judge a Reiki healing or any other healing for that matter, they simply accept it for what it is.
Reiki promotes healing by assisting the client in getting to a relaxed state which in itself promotes healing. The healing is not from the practitioner, rather it is the healing energy that comes through the practitioner and their hands. Reiki is based on intention which has been scientifically proven that thought does influence energy.
Reiki treats conditions such as sprains, burns, back pain to immune system disorders, addictions and depression. It does not conflict with any conventional treatments or medication. Reiki can be useful in alleviating past experiences of trauma to creating abundance in ones life. Reiki often is used to help balance the bodies chakras system which is the bodies different energy centers. There are seven main chakras and they are as follows:

1. Crown Chakra - at the crown or top of the head.
2. Third-Eye Chakra - on the forhead between the eyes.
3. Throat Chakra - at the throat.
4. Heart Chakra - between the breasts.
5. Solar Plexus Chakra - just under the rib cage.
6.Sacral Chakra - the lower tummy area.
7. Root Chakra - the base of the spine.
8. Thymus Chakra (the Higher Heart Chakra) - upper chest area (not yet fully recognized at this time).
1. Crown Chakra-at - on the poll (between the ears).
2. Third-Eye Chakra - just above the eyes on the front of the face.
3. Throat Chakra - behind the jaw at the top of the neck.
4. Heart Chakra - just under the rib cage.
5. Solar Plexus Chakra - behind the withers on the spine and between the top of the legs beneath the chest.
6. Sacral Chakra - top of the hips.
7. Root Chakra - base of the tail where it joins the rump.
8. Thymus Chakra (the Higher Heart Chakra)-upper chest area (not yet fully recognized at this time).
Treating horses and humans require many of the same factors during a session. A quiet area with no distractions and having the horse comfortable in its environment is important. The hand positions are based around the chakra points and meridian lines. I am always assured the horse is open to the Reiki energy before starting any treatment by asking for permission beforehand.
During the Reiki treatment horses will show themselves to be very relaxed if they are accepting of the Reiki. You may notice the eyes softening, the head lowering as well as the lower lip quivering. Quite often you will hear the stomach gurgling and the passing of wind as well the horse may produce droppings. It is not surprising to have the horse come very close to falling asleep.
I have found it to be very rewarding to spend this kind of time with my horse or any of those I have worked on. The connection that develops between the horse and person providing the Reiki is very special. I encourage my clients to use their hands on their horses in this way. It is very healing for both parties and helps to develop a very deep bond between the two. When you are able to touch your horse this way, especially when he is in discomfort, they really appreciate that you understand what they are going through by showing them you understand with your hands. |
